Developing a Prioritisation Map of Paediatric Critical Care Trials
-
Type:
Action Item
- Status: Ongoing
- Category: Research Initiative
- Lead Organisation: PICU-CONNECT
Why This Matters
To enhance conduct and impact of paediatric critical care trials, it is important to ensure perspectives by various stakeholders in relation to important gaps in knowledge are taken into consideration. This will allow to inform prioritisation of future trials and future research collaboration, in particular at global level.
Our Goals
Our main goal is to develop a prioritisation map of paediatric critical care trials. We also aim to: (1) provide an overview of past and current prioritisation exercises in the field, and (2) seek diverse perspectives on research prioritisation in our field.
How We’re Doing It
This is a two-phase project:
Scoping Review
Identify past and current research prioritisation studies published or conducted by different research networks and professional groups.
Prioritization across PICU-CONNECT
Using the PICU-CONNECT members as representatives of PICU research networks across six continents, we will conduct a research prioritisation study considering burden of disease, knowledge gap, feasibility, and potential impact.
Global prioritization
We will consider methodologies to integrate the perspectives of various stakeholders to complement and boost the PICU-CONNECT prioritisation study.
Impact
A PICU research prioritisation study will:
Reduce duplication and inefficiencies the planning of future collaborative trials.
Ensure that trial efforts are prioritised towards areas identified as greatest need/greatest impact/greatest innovation.
